THE FYLINGDALES GROUP OF ARTISTS
2014 Annual Exhibition
Pannett Art Gallery, Whitby
23rd May - July 2nd.
The Group was founded on 25th June, 1925 at a meeting held in Mr. Denton's Hawley's studio in Robin Hood's Bay. It was to be limited to 12 members although this was increased to the present number of 22 some time later. Dame Ethel Walker, A.R.A., Owen Bowen and Ulric Walmsley were among the founder members, Denton Hawley became the first Secretary.
Exhibitions were held annually in the Church Rooms, Robin Hood's Bay, until the outbreak of War in 1939. They ceased during the War Years but the Group was brought together again at the end of hostilities by Mr. Harold Todd, who continued to serve the group as Secretary for many years. The Annual Exhibition continued to be held in Robin Hood's Bay until 1952 when it moved to its present venue at the Pannett Gallery, Whitby.
During the years, many well known Artists have been members including Algernon Newton, R.A., Roland Hill, Florence Hess, Albert Pile, Harry Bateman, Fred Williams and many others.
